Our Community
“How good it is, how sweet when we join together in community.”
— Psalms 133:1
OUR PEOPLE
Congregation Rodeph Sholom is a community for all who enter our doors. Our members represent the vibrant diversity of New York’s Jewish landscape. Multi-generational families, millennials, interfaith families, lifelong New Yorkers, those new to the city, folks pursuing conversion and those exploring Judaism for the first time have all found a home at CRS.

Multi-generational families, millennials, interfaith families, lifelong New Yorkers, those new to the city, folks pursuing conversion and those exploring Judaism for the first time have all found a home at CRS. We are a large congregation enriched by the many small, overlapping and interconnected communities inside it; these are our hallmark. Whether drawn to CRS for worship, lifelong learning, or social connection, our members believe we gain strength when we engage together as a Jewish community.
The CRS community is made up of our member families, our Rodeph Sholom School students, faculty, and staff, and our community partners across New York.
CRS is powered by our inspiring clergy, passionate staff, and dedicated Board of Trustees.
OUR SPACES
Congregation Rodeph Sholom took up residence at 7 West 83rd Street in 1930. Generations later, our seven-story building is home to our historic Main Sanctuary, four additional worship spaces, state-of-the-art classrooms and libraries for our Youth and Family programming, event spaces, a ballroom, and offices for our clergy and staff. In 2019, we completed construction on our brand-new lobby and community room and built a new home on our fifth floor for our Youth and Family programs.

OUR NEIGHBORHOOD
CRS is located in the heart of Manhattan’s Upper West Side, steps away from Central Park. We are proud to be a pillar of the Upper West Side community and are committed to being of service to the people who call this neighborhood home. From our Rodeph Sholom School building on 79th street to our business office on 84th Street, from Sholom Sprouts classes in Central Park to Havdalah services in our courtyard, we draw inspiration from this beautiful and historic neighborhood.
OUR LEGACY
Congregation Rodeph Sholom was founded on the Lower East Side of New York City in 1842. The eighty founding members were of a Bikkur Cholim society known for its care of the sick and needy. Passed down through generations, CRS has transformed over time into a large, dynamic, Reform synagogue on the Upper West Side; blending Jewish tradition with the best lessons of modern culture. Remaining true to our name, Hebrew for “pursuer of peace,” Rodeph Sholom takes pride in its history and is dedicated to fulfilling the promise of the future.
OUR
PARTNERS
CRS partners regularly with nonprofits throughout New York and beyond to engage in direct service.
OUR NEXT GENERATION
CRS has opportunities for children of all ages to build the foundations of a meaningful Jewish life.
