In the spirit of tikkun olam, every month we feature a cause that needs YOU.
This month we want to: End Violence Against Women Around the World
Are you a mother, daughter, or sister? Do you have a mother, daughter or sister? Then click here.
Worldwide, women are in danger. One out of three women will be the victim of a violent act in her lifetime. In addition, in some areas of the world, girls and women are denied an education, economic opportunities, and basic human rights.
The International Violence Against Women Act, or I-VAWA, which builds on the domestic Violence Against Women Act, supports programs around the globe that work to improve the lives of women.
These programs protect women from physical, sexual, and psychological abuse, provide access to education and job opportunities, advocate for laws that provide women equal protection, and work to change attitudes about the rights and roles of women in oppressive communities.
The Torah commands us not to stand idly by the blood of a neighbor nor oppress our neighbor (Leviticus 19:13, 16), making it our obligation to help those who are marginalized, including women and girls in the developing world.
Let us root out violence and end discrimination against women wherever it exists!
