About Purim
Purim inspires us with its mighty story of survival. Think about Mordechai’s heroism! Jump for joy at Esther’s courage! No matter how hard the Hamans of the world try to make us cower, we can each be heroic by valuing the power of our voice and our Jewish commitment. Purim reminds us of our strength and resilience, and commands us to increase our happiness – the very opposite of Haman’s plan. Hamantashen, anyone?
At our annual Purim Shpiel we poke fun at ourselves and laugh at those seeking our destruction. Re-reading the Scroll of Esther (Megillat Esther) we recommit ourselves to creating hope and fighting for justice. And through the distribution of mishloach manot, food packages to friends, and matanot l’evyonim, gifts to those in need, we strengthen webs of relationship and obligation, and further expand our blessing.
