When we invited our congregation to join us for an information session on October 4th about next year’s intergenerational trip to Israel, the world looked very different than it does today. As we continue to monitor the unfolding war in Gaza and the rebuilding efforts in Israel, we also know this congregational journey has only grown in importance.
While we cannot predict the future, we can say that bearing witness, showing solidarity, and strengthening the relationship between Rodeph Sholom and Israel is vital, and we are moving forward with this trip December 20, 2024 to January 1, 2025. The decision to move forward with our trip even at this complicated time comes out of many conversations between our Board of Trustees, our clergy and staff, our security advisory committee, and our Israel-based trip provider J2.
We hope you will join us and our own families in showing solidarity by journeying with us. While it is too soon to know our exact itinerary, we know that we will be focusing on support for those in Israel who need us, along with seeing the beauty of the land and its people.
The trip will include a visit to Kehillat YOZMA with whom we have a deep and ongoing partnership. YOZMA is currently engaged in supporting those impacted by the war and we just announced a new Israel Emergency Fund which will direct money to this important work.
With gratitude,
Rabbi Spratt & Cantor De Lowe
