Voices of Jerusalem is an interactive workshop exploring the lived experiences of Jewish, Muslim and Christian women living in Jerusalem, which is told through their own eyes and in their own words. Their stories are brought to life through a short film and selections from the written text of their narratives. There will be opportunities to share questions and responses to the narratives in small groups, and to experience the empowering nature of sharing our own narratives through developing a piece of our narrative in conversation. Join Rabbi Donna Cephas, Shifa Mahmood, and Rabbi Spratt for this powerful conversation as they connect their lives through narrative and teach us how to do the same.

Shifa Mahmood began her public service career after receiving her Master’s Degree from the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership at CUNY. She previously worked for the Mayor of New York City and currently develops policy in New York City government. She is the co-leader of the Manhattan chapter of Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom. She studied Islamic texts for 20 years, and was a Islamic Sunday school teacher at the Middletown Islamic Center in NY.

Rabbi Donna Cephas was ordained in May 2021 by Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. In 2008 she received a Master’s Degree in Jewish Education from the Jewish Theological Seminary. Since 2009, she has chronicled the personal narratives of a cross-section of non-Jewish adults committed to raising Jewish children and teaches workshops on developing and using personal narratives. She was the founding Board President of the Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom, a nationwide network of Muslim and Jewish women dedicated to fostering relationships, interfaith learning and social justice initiatives.
