Trans-Generations: Supporting Grandparents of Trans and Gender-Expansive Youth

You are invited to attend Trans-Generations, an affirming online space for Jewish and Jewish-Adjacent* grandparents brought to you by the Union for Reform Judaism in partnership with Keshet and the Jewish Grandparents Network.

We understand the unique experiences, challenges, and emotions that arise when a grandchild expresses an underrepresented gender identity. Within Trans-Generations, we foster a safe and inclusive online space where you can connect with other grandparents on a similar path. Whether you are seeking guidance on understanding gender identities, navigating family dynamics, or becoming a knowledgeable advocate, our group is here to support you every step of the way. Together, we can navigate this journey with love, acceptance, and shared wisdom, ensuring our grandchildren feel cherished and affirmed for who they are.

Co-facilitators for the group will be Rebecca Minor (she/her), LICSW and Gender Specialist and Dr. Dani Rosenkrantz, PhD (she/they), specialist in Jewish LGBTQIA+ Mental Health. This is a 90-minute live online session and, with the goal of creating a brave and vulnerable space, will not be recorded. We encourage you to share the class webpage with other Jewish grandparents who may wish to register.

NOTE: We affirm that gender identity is complex and diverse, and gender-expansive people use a wider range of terms to describe their/our gender identities. Not all gender-expansive people use the terms ‘trans’ and ‘nonbinary.’ The organizers of this session have selected these terms for the framing of this session, but do not consider them exclusive terms or assume that they apply to all people. Learn more about gender identity terms here.

This group is open to all Jewish (and Jewish-Adjacent*) grandparents, regardless of prior familiarity with Judaism or the LGBTQ+ community. We welcome you with open arms and the desire to grow together. To help ensure that all can participate, we ask you to read or watch the materials sent with your confirmation email to become familiar with some basic terms and concepts before your first session. We ask that you affirm your prior learning when you register.

The cost of offering this experience is $60 per person, but we are fortunate to be able to offer free tickets to maximize accessibility. Though payment is not required, we thank you for considering a donation when you register.

Once you complete the registration, you will receive a confirmation email including the Zoom link and preparatory materials. If you have any questions, please contact Stephanie Fink at sfink@urj.org.

*Jewish-Adjacent: Those of us who are not Jewish but are partnered with/have family that are Jewish.
