As we watch the military incursion unfold and witness the senseless hatred and violence in Ukraine, we likely feel both fearful and helpless. In this moment of crisis, as Jews and members of Jewish communities, we seek to understand both what is happening in civil society and in the Jewish community in Ukraine and how we can be of service.

We will welcome Karyn Grossman Gershon to share with us her analysis of the context and crisis and to share about what is happening on the ground with the Jewish communities there. Gershon is the CEO of Project Kesher, an organization that works to build Jewish life and advance the status of women in Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus. Gerhson has traveled to these countries more than 50 times since 1994 and is in daily contact with Jewish women leaders in this region.  She has spoken on Jewish life and civil society in Ukraine and Russia at Northwestern University, Washington University in St. Louis, and Stanford University, as well as on NPR and Voice of America.  She is coordinating efforts for an Emergency Relief Fund for Jewish Women in Ukraine. The Director of Project Kesher Ukraine recently wrote this OpEd in The Forward.
