OFFSITE: Governor Cuomo speaks to the Reform Jewish Community on “Raise the Age”

Mon, Mar 13, 2017 • 6:00 PM8:00 PM

Central Synagogue

On Monday, March 13th, Governor Andrew Cuomo will join Rabbi Stephanie Kolin at Central Synagogue at 55th and Lexington Avenue, for a conversation on the topic of Raise the Age. This is an effort by a coalition led by Citizens’ Committee for Children of NY and the Children’s Defense Fund-NY to raise the age of criminal responsibility for 16 and 17 year olds for misdemeanors and non-violent felonies to age 18, to be tried in the Family Court as juveniles and not adults. New York and North Carolina are the only two states in the US who try these 16 and 17 year olds as adults, causing irreparable damage both short and long term to these young people and their families. This important difference means kids receive access to rehabilitation programs, resources, and a real second chance.

If you would like to attend, please click here to register.

The conversation starts promptly at 6:30pm, so they are asking that you please arrive at 6pm so as to get the 1000 people comfortably to seats.
