For 75 years, Jews across the world have celebrated Israel’s triumphs: its in-gathering of our people from across the globe and its conquest of the desert, its scientific prowess, world-class start-ups, literary giants, tumultuous democracy . . . and harrowing challenges.

As the nation marks its 76th birthday during this time of acute adversity, Temple Emanu-El and the UJA-Federation of New York invite you to rejoice in those triumphs even as we mourn our losses . . . and to confront the precarious situation with renewed determination and pride.

To help us do so, we welcome Achinoam Nini — the internationally acclaimed singer known simply as Noa — who has been celebrating Israel in song for three decades. Her unique fusion of 1960s folk sounds with her Yemenite roots and the jazz beats of her musical partner, Gil Dor, reflects the essence of multicultural Israel. They will be joined by special guest Ruslan Sirota, a Grammy-winning jazz pianist.

A longtime political activist and advocate for dialogue and coexistence, Noa will remind us, as she did when performing with Palestinian singer Mira Awad at Eurovision 2009, that even in these dark days, “there must be another way.”
