Lunch Together

Tue, Apr 5, 2016 • 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM

This month we’ll be watching “MY ITALIAN SECRET: The Forgotten Heroes,” a film documenting how courageous Italians saved 80% of Italy’s Jews during the Holocaust. In 1995, Vincent Mamarole, a renowned teacher of Holocaust Studies, met Walter Wolff, whose family fled Germany in 1939 for Italy, still open to Jews, and survived the war there. Mamarole created a foundation to research similar stories, and the film we’re seeing tells those tales: a Tour de France bicycle champion transporting fake ID documents in the frame of his bike; a physician inventing a fictitious disease to scare the SS away from the hospital where he was hiding Jews; and more. Mr. Mamorale and his daughter, Laura Newman, will be able to answer questions about the film and about the work of the foundation.
