Meyer W. Nathans Volunteer Appreciation Shabbat

Fri, May 31 • 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

IN PERSON & ONLINE

We will turn this Shabbat service into a service of Service, celebrating the hundreds from our congregation who graciously donate their time, talents, and wisdom in various leadership capacities including serving on committees, sparking Minyan groups, and lending personal support. We invite everyone to join us as we honor all those who build and shape this sacred community together. A festive oneg will follow.

Erela Nornberg will receive The Meyer W. Nathans Service Award which recognizes individuals for their outstanding contribution of service over many years to the Congregation.

Erela Nornberg’s journey from Israel to New York City has been marked by her steadfast commitment to supporting children and families. With a background in social work and education, including degrees from Tel Aviv University and NYU, she has become a licensed marriage and family therapist with a specialization in psychoanalytic treatment for children and adolescents. For the last 25 years Erela had dedicated her work to emotionally support children in school and private practice and then served as a supervisor at the Jewish Board for Family and Children Services, overseeing Mental Health clinicians dedicated to supporting child welfare staff.

Growing up in Israel and raising her three kids at Rodeph Sholom school in NYC (with frequent visits to see family in Israel) heightened Erela’s sensitivity to different cultures and her desire to help others feel comfortable in their own skin. After October 7th, Erela founded the Israeli Hug Center at CRS as a way to offer support in Hebrew to all Israelis living in NYC – temporarily or permanently. The center serves as a refuge for displaced Israelis seeking psychological support and connections to vital community services, embodying Erela’s unwavering dedication to meeting the diverse emotional needs of every Israeli in NYC.

We will present the Gemilut Chasadim Awards for commitment to tikkun olam and giving back to our community. This year’s recipients are:  Elaine Hochberg, Erica Fishbein, Lisa Glass, Shelley Levine, Barbara Levy, Wendy Tinkoff, and Josh Wiener.
