Who By Fire: Leonard Cohen in the Sinai by Matti Friedman

Award-winning (the Sami Rohr Prize, the American Library Association’s Sophie Brody Medal, and the Canadian Jewish Book Award) journalist and author, Matti Friedman, has researched and uncovered the little-known story of Leonard Cohen’s concert tour to the front lines of the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Nicole Krauss, in reviewing the book, said it best, “WHO BY FIRE is a stunning resurrection of a moment in the life of Leonard Cohen and the history of Israel. It’s the story of a young artist in crisis and a young country at war, and the powerful resonance of the chord struck between them. A beautiful, haunting book.”

The CRS Book Club coordinator highly recommends the Audible production of this wonderfully crafted volume.

Book Club gathers once a month to discuss literature (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, or plays) written by a Jewish author or with a theme of Jewish interest. Meetings are self-moderated and led by different members each month. The group nominates and selects their reading material. Every meeting provides spirited conversation and a chance to learn in a stimulating environment.
