Congregation Rodeph Sholom mourns the loss of our longtime, beloved member and teacher, Rabbi David Ellenson, devoted husband of Rabbi Jacqueline Koch Ellenson.
The family will observe Shiva at Congregation Rodeph Sholom from Monday, December 11th through Thursday, December 14th from 4pm-7pm with minyan services at 6pm.
David and Jackie have been longtime, steadfast members of Congregation Rodeph Sholom. Jackie is a multi-generational member of our synagogue.
Rabbi Ellenson was a leader in our congregation, a devoted worship attendee and mentor. He was a pillar in the world of Reform Judaism, having served as President, Chancellor and then Chancellor Emeritus of HUC-JIR, as well as being a highly published author and sought after scholar. We were privileged that he graciously and willingly shared his brilliant wisdom with our members through the many highly anticipated and well attended Adult Education Courses and High Holy Day lectures he led at our synagogue. He has touched generations of the CRS community with his warm, gentle personality and infinite wisdom. He will be greatly missed.
We extend our deepest condolences to Jackie, their adored children, Ruthie (Lorne); Rabbi Micah (Sara); Hannah (Becca), Nomi (Spencer), Confirmand at CRS; and Raphael, Bar Mitzvah and Confirmand at CRS, and his beloved grandchildren, Lily and Rosie and Shai and Yonah.
At the family’s request, donations in Rabbi Ellenson’s memory may be made to HUC-JIR’s Year in Israel program and Israel Rabbinical Program, which he defended with fierce love and protection and ensured would flourish and thrive.
