We were fortunate that our 175th anniversary also fell on the same year as the quarter-century anniversary of our senior Rabbi, Robert N. Levine. Our celebration included assembling alumni clergy for a special Erev Shabbat service and Oneg on Friday, December 2nd, 2016, and a Havdalah and panel discussion with alumni clergy. Both events had robust attendance with a wide swath of the community coming together to honor an extraordinary thinker and leader that one congregant described as “magical.”
A Message from the President of Congregation Rodeph Sholom Martin Flumenbaum:
This Congregation has been blessed with exceptional stability in its senior clergy over its 175 year history. Robert Levine is only the 12th person to hold the title of Senior Rabbi, and there are only two other rabbis in our entire history who have held the title longer. Under Rabbi Levine’s leadership, this Congregation has nearly doubled in size during his 25 year tenure. We have always been impressed by Rabbi Levine’s intellect and knowledge. But what has deeply touched virtually every member of this 1,800 family Congregation is Robert’s character and inherent humanity. He is a truly committed, caring and compassionate leader.
While grown-ups were hard at work planning a celebration, there was a special surprise being prepared elsewhere…
Many thanks to our congregant Ellen Dubin, who took Friday night’s beautiful pictures, and to congregant David Kranich, who covered us with his photography business on Saturday.
