A Message from Rabbi Nir Barkin:
Why Your Vote Matters

The World Zionist Congress (WZC), established by Theodor Herzl in 1897, is the democratically elected international body which gives Diaspora Jews like us a voice in shaping Israel’s future.

Rodeph Sholom is part of the U.S. Reform Movement’s VOTE REFORM campaign to ensure that Israel reflects our Reform Jewish values, which are articulated in its Declaration of Independence.

Your vote will…

  • Advance pluralism and secure resources for Reform synagogues, rabbis, and values in Israel.
  • Safeguard the rights of minorities, women, and the LGBTQ+ community in Israel.
  • Influence the allocation of $5 billion to causes that impact Israel and the global Jewish community.

About the Elections

Frequently Asked Questions

The World Zionist Congress, established by Theodor Herzl in 1897, is the democratically elected international body which gives Diaspora Jews like us a voice in shaping Israel’s future. Taking place every five years, the World Zionist Congress is known as “the parliament of the Jewish People,” where 525 elected delegates from around the globe will meet in Jerusalem from October 28-30, 2025 to make key decisions in how to allocate over $1 billion annually (over $5 billion for the 5 years between congresses) to support needs across Israeli society.
The money being allocated includes the budget for the major Zionist Organizations including the Jewish National Fund, the Jewish Agency for Israel and Keren Kayameth L’Israel. These organizations allocate money and perform services that affect the entire Jewish world. Among other roles they purchase land, pay for education and community building, develop water resources, and influence rules for who qualifies as a Jew and who does not.
Our opponents in the WZC campaign are highly motivated religious fundamentalists whose vision for the future of Israel is diametrically opposed to ours. They are organizing to destroy what we value, including:
  • Chipping away at Israel’s democracy
  • Rolling back gains for gender equity, LGBTQ+ rights, and religious pluralism
  • Stripping our Israeli Reform clergy – especially our women rabbis, of their rights and abilities to perform recognized weddings, conversions and other functions
  • Making sure that our converts and children are not welcome in the Jewish state
  • Depriving our Reform communities of their rights to funding for staff support and infrastructure
  • Expanding settlements and blocking any hope of Palestinian self-determination and safety
  • Writing Reform Jews out of the next chapter of Jewish history
  • Making Jews in Israel and around the world less safe

Voting for ARZA, the Association of Reform Zionists of America, helps ensure that Israel reflects our Reform Jewish values: equality, democracy, pluralism, justice and peace in Israel.

For those who wish to vote by mail, Paper Ballots can be picked up at the CRS security desk.
