On Monday, May 18th, the synagogue held its 173rd Annual Meeting. In addition to conducting regular business and voting on revised by-laws, highlights of the evening included:
- Electing Rabbi Greg Weitzman as our new Assistant Rabbi. Having been our rabbinic intern for the past three years, Rabbi Weitzman is a familiar presence to many of you. Please mark your calendars for his installation on November 20th – more information to come
- We were delighted to present our annual Gemilut Chasadim Awards, given to congregants who have demonstrated extraordinary service to our congregation and to our community. This year, we honored five members of our congregation:
- Maya Mesh and Skylar Reimer Sherman, who have both been instrumental as leaders in the Children’s Choir, acting as mentors and interns to the younger children. Both of these young women are blessed with beautiful voices, and we are so impressed with their generosity of spirit in sharing their talent and time in helping the Choir and Cantor Garfein
- Roberta Moser has been the Chair of the College Committee for the last five years. Through her efforts, college students receive “holiday care packages” that allow them to stay connected with their synagogue family while they are far away.
- Fred Oltarsh has been organizing a weekly Brotherhood basketball game for many years. It’s more than a pick-up game – the camaraderie, competition, and sheer fun the players have together are a wonderful example of community-building at the synagogue
- Arlene Rosen is the key driver of our Bikur Cholim program, overseeing congregant visits to those in need. She takes special care in matching volunteers with members of our congregation who are elderly, ill, or need a little cheer. Through her dedication and compassion she has helped brighten the lives of dozens of our fellow congregants.
- The synagogue elected a new Trustee, Denise Sobel. Denise brings to our synagogue grace, intelligence, and a keen interest and passion for the decorative arts. We are also delighted that Denise will be joining our Development Committee.

Ashley Weitzman; Executive Director, Barbara Zakin; newly elected Rabbi Greg D. Weitzman, and Rabbi Sari R. Laufer
