Michael (Mikey) Mitgang (He/Him) is a fifth-year rabbinical student at Hebrew Union College–Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR) in New York City, and will be ordained in May 2026 with his Masters in Hebrew Literature and a Certificate in Jewish Organizational Leadership from the Zelikow School of Jewish Nonprofit Management.
Originally from Princeton Junction, New Jersey, Mikey grew up at attending URJ Camp Harlam, where he was a camper, counselor, and eventually a supervisor. He graduated from Indiana University in 2021 with a degree from the Borns Jewish Studies Program and a certificate in Liberal Arts and Management. During the 2020–2021 academic year, he studied abroad at the Rothberg International School of Hebrew University in Jerusalem. While in Israel, he participated in the Nachshon Project, which inspired him to pursue the rabbinate. Mikey is currently pursuing the Master’s Concentration in Israel Education as an iFellow through the iCenter.
Mikey joined the Congregation Rodeph Sholom community in 2022 as a religious school teacher and later became a co-youth group advisor for Gotham BBYO and CRS Teens. He is thrilled to serve as the rabbinic intern and feels deeply honored to have CRS as the community helping to shape him into the best rabbi he can be.
In his free time, Mikey enjoys seeing musicals, trying out the trendiest NYC restaurants, and dancing along to Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga.
