Rodeph Sholom has been in an ongoing relationship with Kehillat YOZMA for over a decade, connecting from across the ocean around shared values between our two communities. Our first connection centered around serving families with special needs. Rodeph Sholom became a mentor to YOZMA, sharing materials, experience, and training based around our Shireinu initiative. YOZMA created their very own program for families with special needs in Modi’in and we were able to attend one of their services while on our 2013 Congregational Israel trip.
In 2017 and 2018 the CRS Israel Committee selected YOZMA’s after-school tutoring program “Yozman” as our philanthropic project. CRS was so proud to support Yozman, which is a highly successful after-school tutoring program supporting children from economically challenged families.
Our clergy and congregants alike have been blessed to be connected to both the former rabbi of YOZMA, as well as the current rabbi, Rabbi Nir Barkin.
CRS’s Emergency Israel Fund Supported Kehillat YOZMA Modiin
Thanks to the generosity of our community, we raised over $100,000 to support Kehillat YOZMA Modiin, the largest Reform Jewish community in Modiin. During this pivotal moment, YOZMA took a comprehensive and compassionate approach to supporting those affected:
Sent care packages to nearly 200 IDF soldiers
Provided assistance to paramedics and volunteers on the ground
Offered counseling, financial aid, and shelter to local community members
Extended essential aid to Kibbutz Nir Oz—one of the hardest-hit communities on October 7—helping mourning families resettle in new locations, likely in the Negev and beyond
Enhanced the security of their own community through the installation of new cameras, security panels, and fencing
We are proud to have stood with our partners in Israel at a time of such urgent need.
