On Monday night we were privileged and honored to host Inside Fauda with Lior Raz, an event organized by the UJA Federation-New York. Over 1,200 people filled the Sanctuary to hear Lior tell the story of how the most-watched TV show in Israel came to be.
Lior served as a member of an elite, top-secret branch of the Israeli military, which influenced him to ultimately write a show about his experiences in the military. After getting rejected by dozens of cable networks for dealing with such a contentious subject matter, their script was finally purchased by a small studio, and quickly became the most popular TV show in Israel. Written in Hebrew and Arabic, it has been translated into many different languages and, having been bought by Netflix, is now available and popular all around the world.
Lior was witty, moving, and reflective. He showed clips from Fauda’s first season and treated the audience to inside stories of how scenes were shot, and we also got to see a trailer for Season 2. During the evening and through Q&A, he provided his perspective on everything from army training to the importance of Israelis learning Arabic to how he first learned to shoot a gun. You can watch Fauda on Netflix with English subtitles.
