On March 3rd, 2017, we had a big night dedicated to learning about the plight of today’s refugees, as well as honoring our own past and profound losses of Jewish refugees during the Second World War. The Erev Shabbat Service was followed by an information fair of organizations, including CRS. We were joined by New York Cares, the International Rescue Committee, the Muslim-Jewish Solidarity Committee, the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty, and the Multifaith Alliance for Syrian Refugees and we distributed materials sent from HIAS,Carry the Future, and the Refugee Immigrantion Fund. And, in planning that was months in the making, we had our own table where our community could learn about the many areas where Rodeph Sholom is forming committees to help refugees. Categories included Advocacy,Employment, Legal Services, Ready Awareness, Refugee Settlement,Health and Medical Services,Mastery of the English Language, and Accompanying Immigrants to ICE Hearings. We are excited to start work, and invite anyone who is interested to email socialaction@crsnyc.org.
Our community showed up literally by the hundreds to help. We are on the path to helping those who truly have no where else to turn.
