    Food Drive

The hunger crisis in our city urgently needs help.  Rodeph Sholom congregants can respond to the Mitzvah of feeding the hungry through our annual food drive. The money collected is distributed to established West Side, local, and city-wide organizations serving the Jewish community as well as the New York community-at-large. In addition, food donated by congregants during the annual Yom Kippur Food Drive is donated to City Harvest.

    Backpack Buddies

This response to childhood hunger, serves children who are food insecure, meaning they do not have access at all times to enough food for an active, healthy life. CRS currently distributes 35 backpacks full of food weekly on Friday afternoons through the Lincoln Square neighborhood Center, with hopes to expand to 70 backpacks per week.  Every Friday during the school year we deliver full backpacks and pick up empty backpacks to pack for use the following weekend.

    Temple Operating Fund

The fund is used to supplement the operating income of the congregation, which is primarily comprised of membership dues. Gifts are allocated wherever there is the most need. The fund includes the Homeless Shelter Fund as well as honor/memorial gifts.

    Yahrzeit Donation Fund

On the anniversary of a beloved one’s death, congregants are sent a reminder and may wish to make a gift in memory of their beloved – a way to make the memory tangible in the world.

    Yom Kippur Appeal

This annual campaign is the primary development initiative for the congregation.  The annual support of all congregants, parents, and friends is solicited by the Board, volunteers, and staff. Gifts to the Appeal help bridge the 65% gap between membership dues and actual operating costs. Gifts to the Appeal also make sure that the synagogue never has to refuse membership to anyone who wants to be a part of this community, whatever their financial means.

All gifts are meaningful and very much appreciated.  Gifts at the Rabbi’s Circle levels (Sapphire,  $25,000; Emerald, $18,000; Platinum, $10,000) and President’s Club levels (Ruby, $7,500; Gold, $5,000; Silver, $2,500; Bronze, $1,800) receive special recognition.

    Yahrzeit Plaques

Congregation Rodeph Sholom has a tradition of offering memorial plaques to members who wish to remember loved ones in this customary manner. During the week of yahrzeit, a light is lit next to the name of the departed. The lights beside all the memorial plaques in the sanctuary are also lit for Yizkor services during the holidays (Yom Kippur, Shemeni Atzeret/Simchat Torah, Passover, and Shavuot). $3,000 per Memorial Plaque.

    Planned Giving

A Legacy for Family & Community

Through planned gifts such as bequests, life insurance policies, gift annuities and charitable trusts, congregants can help perpetuate all that Rodeph Sholom stands for. The Ner Tamid Society acknowledges and honors those who have made charitable provisions in their estates to benefit Rodeph Sholom.

By including Rodeph Sholom in your financial and estate plans, you may increase your current income and provide future support for areas of the congregation or school that are important to you. Often you can make a larger gift than you might have thought possible, while also benefiting yourself and your family. Planned gifts may be eligible for immediate tax deductions as well as reduce estate taxes to you and your children.

Please contact Lyndsie Levine at (646) 454-3050 or send an email to llevine@crsnyc.org  to get further information.

    Bequests

Bequests and wills have been the cornerstone of giving at Rodeph Sholom since the 19th century. They account for a valuable portion of the Rodeph Sholom endowment and can provide significant funding for Rodeph Sholom programs, facilities, and student aid. For sample language for a bequest, click here.

    Retirement Funds

Careful planning in connection with the use of your retirement accounts and the other resources in your estate allows you to take advantage of every available means to minimize taxes, meet your income needs and maximize estate planning opportunities

Real Estate or Other Valuable Property

It may be advantageous to you and your estate to consider bequeathing assets such as real estate to Rodeph Sholom. The Synagogue or the school may choose to use the space or might use the proceeds from the sale of the property to fund programs and projects.
