Same tune, different lyrics. Oppose Unjust Refugee and Immigration Ban.
The United States turned its back on thousands of Jewish refugees during WWII because some Members of Congress argued there might be spies who would threaten our national security among the Jews fleeing Nazi occupied Europe.
The new President is singing the same tune – he just tweaked the lyrics, substituting “Muslims” for “Jews”; “terrorists” for “spies;” and specific Muslim-majority countries, “Syria, Iran, Iraq, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen,” for “Europe.”
The Torah commands us 36 times to welcome strangers. As Jews, we have an ethical obligation to take action to stop a ban that is unconstitutional, illegal, and immoral.
Rabbi Hillel’s teaching spurs us to action: If not us, then who? If not now, then when? Send an email to President Trump and urge him to rescind his hateful executive order.
