Please join Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and Congregation Rodeph Sholom for a special program featuring Ruth Calderon, Ph.D. on Jewish Identity with Israel at War. This event is held in honor of Rabbi David Ellenson, Ph.D., z”l, past President and Chancellor Emeritus of HUC-JIR, on the occasion of his first yahrzeit. Together we will honor Rabbi Ellenson’s remarkable legacy and profound impact on generations of Jewish scholars.

About Ruth Calderon, Ph.D.

Dr. Calderon is an Israeli academic, writer, and politician, recognized for her work in founding Israel’s first secular, pluralistic Beit Midrash for both men and women. She is also the founder of ALMA, an organization promoting Hebrew culture among secular Israelis. As a former Member of Knesset for the Yesh Atid Party and Deputy Speaker, she championed Jewish renewal and education. Holding a Ph.D. in Talmud, Dr. Calderon is dedicated to making Jewish texts accessible to all, regardless of religious background.
