First Friends Volunteer Orientation Workshop

Tuesday, January 7 at 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Join us to learn how to become an immigration detention visitor and post-release volunteer for First Friends!

First Friends of NJ & NY provides supportive volunteer visitation to detainees and asylum seekers in 4 northern NJ jails and detention centers. They also provide post-release services, such as jail pickup, temporary accommodation and bus transportation, to those immigrants released from the jails they serve.

This 2-hour orientation session will focus on why they provide visitation, the rules and regulations surrounding visitation, and information about the types of detainees and the 4 county jails and detention centers that they visit. They will also share information on how to provide post-release services to those that are released without family members in the local area to take care of them.
