Fri, Nov 18, 2016 • 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

Main Sanctuary (Congregation Rodeph Sholom)

Friday, November 18th at Erev Shabbat, we will rejoice in our history and renew our commitment to Rodeph Sholom. Andrew Dolkart, noted architectural historian and Professor of Historic Preservation at Columbia University, will provide insights into the history and design of our Sanctuary and our magnificent home. Rodeph Sholom members will be honored and we will join together at a festive oneg after the service.

Sunday, November 20th Neighborhood Tour: We will visit our original building at 8 Clinton Street on the Lower East Side. Now home of Congregation Chasam Sopher, we will learn about our history through a special program featuring Rabbi Levine and Annie Polland from the Lower East Side Tenement Museum. Learn what life was like for our founding congregants!

TOUR: Once, the streets of New York’s Lower East Side comprised the largest Jewish community in the world. Rediscover old and new Jewish heritage of Congregation Rodeph Sholom’s original neighborhood. As we tour the nearby blocks to the original Rodeph Sholom building, we can discover remnants of the neighborhood’s complex past much of which is quickly disappearing. Walking tours depart at noon and 2:00 pm from the front of Chasam Sopher and will go on rain or shine. Light food will be provided throughout the day at Chasam Sopher.

GETTING THERE Bus transportation to Chasam Sopher will be provided, departing at 10:45am from CRS and leaving Chasam Sopher by 3:00 pm to return to CRS. RSVP by November 6 to heritage@crsnyc.org.
