DESCRIPTION:In Hebrew\, the word shir means both “poem” and “song.” Join Cantorial Intern Will Brockman on Saturday\, June 6 following ReSoul services for a journey into the meeting place of Israeli poetry\, music\, and prayer. \nTogether\, we will listen closely to Hebrew poems and song whose words carry longing\, tenderness\, grief\, hope\, and love — and ask how they can become prayerful\, even when they were not written as liturgy. We will explore how melody changes the meaning of a poem\, how poetry deepens the emotional world of music\, and how Israeli secular songs can sometimes open sacred space in unexpected ways. \nThis session will invite us to hear familiar categories a little differently: a poem as a song\, a song as a prayer\, and prayer as the place where the heart learns to speak. No previous Hebrew knowledge is required.
