SUMMARY:Indispensable Lessons My Journey and My Faith Have Taught Me (and How They May Inform and Inspire You) Jan 22 - Feb 5\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER FOR IN PERSON \nWATCH LIVE STREAM \nThis registration is for in-person only. The class will also be live-streamed on our website. \nIndispensable Lessons My Journey and My Faith Have Taught Me (and How They May Inform and Inspire You) \nRabbi Emeritus Robert N. Levine\, DD \nIn this 3-part series\, Rabbi Levine draws on his experience and values to show us how Judaism’s teachings can help us live a life of purpose. He will guide us in finding our way through this magnificent\, complex tradition together. \nNavigating Our Most Important Relationship\nWATCH SESSION 1 HERE \n“In my view of the world\, God is not absent or indifferent; God is searching for us. Belief matters but only if it makes a difference in our actions.” \nTogether we will examine whether decency is an obligation\, or a free will gesture. We will also discuss obstacles to faith\, such as bad things happening to good people. \nIs it Arrogant to Believe That This World Is All There Is?\nWATCH SESSION 2 HERE \n“I used to believe that Judaism only focused on our days on earth. Now I know there is a vast literature that focuses on the afterlife and even resurrection.” \nWe will study these views and ask if we believe in life after life\, in worlds beyond and before us. We will read reflections from those who had near-death experiences and ask what difference all this could make for how we live today. \nThe Most Compelling Reasons to Do Jewish\nMonday\, February 5\, 7:00 – 8:30 PM \n“I have always been inspired by Elie Wiesel’s observation that the mission of the Jewish people is not to make the world more Jewish but to make it more human.” \nWe will discuss his vision and ask how important adhering to tradition\, celebrating values\, combatting antisemitism\, protecting Israel\, and seeking purpose are to our Jewish identity.
