Rosh Hashanah: The Jewish New Year That Isn’t Really a New Year

HBD, world!! In this first session, we will deconstruct everything you need to know about the Jewish New Year and how to celebrate. We’ll cover Rosh Hashanah as the world’s birthday, the Day of Judgment and as just one of four new years on the Jewish calendar – and what all that means for us now. By the end, you’ll know what a shofar is, why we consume apples and honey and what exactly the deal is with the Book of Life. New year, new you, babe.

And this time, we’re focusing on the spiritual, intimidating, magical and sometimes confusing High Holiday season! Taught by Rabbi Arielle Stein with the creativity and verve that led Vogue to feature her, our 4-week virtual curriculum will give you a deeper understanding of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot and Simchat Torah. Together, we’ll learn why we celebrate and how — just in time to do it yourself for 5787 (the upcoming Jewish new year).
No matter what your level of observance or prior education may be, these classes are for you. So start off the High Holiday season right: having the most fun you’ll ever have in Hebrew school with Hey Alma.
