Expert Scanning of Holocaust-Era Photos and Documents by Mémorial de la Shoah

Monday, June 10, 2024

REGISTER

On June 10 and 11, representatives of the Mémorial de la Shoah in Paris will be meeting with survivors from all countries as well as their family members to scan treasured photographs and documents of all types, from all countries. The scanned images will become part of the permanent collection of Mémorial de la Shoah, the preeminent repository of Holocaust archives in Europe.

The Mémorial de la Shoah, located in the heart of Paris, is a critically important institution. In addition to maintaining its massive archives, it functions as an important educational and cultural center and sacred place of remembrance. Your participation in this scanning event will ensure that your family’s story will be accessible to scholars and will contribute to their research.

You and your family members and descendants are invited to participate in this event. Bring along all of the kinds of items that help tell the story of your life and family before and during the war – photographs, letters, drawings, journals, diaries, school reports, identity cards, passports, ration cards, visas, official and personal correspondence regarding efforts to emigrate, etc. The Shoah Memorial are interested in scanning all of these types of items, regardless of whether they are from France or other countries. Please bring originals if possible. If originals are not available, bring very good copies.

If you like, you may receive an electronic file containing scans of all of your photos and written documents. This file will be a valuable resource that you may keep or share with others.

The scanning of archives on June 10 and 11, 2024, will take place at the following location:
Selfhelp Community Services, Inc.
520 Eighth Avenue (between 36th and 37th Streets), 5th Floor
New York, New York 10018

Please contact Nancy Lefenfeld, Volunteer Representative in the U.S (nlefenfeld@gmail.com or cell phone: 301.908.2757) if you wish to arrange an appointment or if you have questions regarding this event.

  2. If your screen freezes during viewing, please try reloading your browser. Also try clearing your history and shutting down other programs and web pages.
  3. Google Chrome and Firefox work well with our Live Stream, while Safari can be less dependable. If you are unable to view Live Stream at all, please try a different browser.
  4. If you cannot hear the Live Stream, make sure you click “Tap to Unmute” at the top of the player.
  5. Sound is largely a function of the quality of your audio equipment. External speakers will greatly enhance the sound.
  6. If you are having trouble dialing in to services (audio only):

    • Once you’ve entered that, you should be dialed in and able to hear services.
