October 7 Memorial Erev Shabbat Service & Israeli Art Exhibition

Friday, October 9 • 4:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Congregation Rodeph Sholom

Join us as we mark three years since October 7 through prayer, music, reflection and art. We are honored to welcome New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin, who will deliver remarks during our Erev Shabbat service. The evening will also launch Into the Light, a new series of art programming at Congregation Rodeph Sholom presenting work by Israeli artists throughout the year.

The inaugural exhibition, Facing the Sea, features a selection of powerful portraits by Israeli artist Daniel Tchetchik, created in collaboration with HaGal Sheli (My Wave), an Israeli nonprofit that uses surfing as a therapeutic, rehabilitative and educational tool for individuals coping with trauma, at-risk populations and people with physical disabilities. The exhibition is curated by CRS member Manon Slome.

4:30 PM | Panel Discussion & Meet and Greet

  • Join us in the Hahn Chapel for a panel discussion featuring artist Daniel Tchetchik; Yaron Waksman, Co-Founder and CEO of HaGal Sheli; Eden Shmuel, a survivor of the Nova Music Festival massacre and participant in HaGal Sheli’s trauma therapy program; and project curator Manon Slome. Rabbi Stein will moderate the conversation.
  • Following the panel, guests will have an opportunity to meet the artist and explore the exhibition.

6:00 PM | Erev Shabbat October 7 Memorial Service

  • Join us for a special Erev Shabbat service of prayer, music and reflection as we commemorate three years since October 7, featuring remarks by Julie Menin, Speaker of the New York City Council.
