What does it mean to understand Israel—not only as a modern state, but as a place shaped by competing histories, identities, hopes, and conflicts? This six-part series explores the major moments and forces that have shaped Israeli society, from the land before the establishment of the State of Israel to the questions confronting the country today.

Together, we’ll examine the people, events, ideas, and turning points that transformed the region and continue to shape Israel’s identity and future. Each session builds on the last, offering historical context while creating space to consider the complexities of Israeli society and its relationships with Palestinians, the broader region, and the Jewish world.
