Rodeph Sholom School is an independent Reform Jewish Day School that fosters intellectual curiosity through a challenging academic program. At the heart of RSS is a warm, vibrant community, where students are guided by Jewish knowledge, values, and ethics to become self-confident and socially responsible leaders.
Rodeph Sholom translates to “pursuit of wholeness.” Here at RSS, students, faculty, and families all strive to be the fullest versions of ourselves as individuals and as a collective. To do that we are steadfast in our pursuit of three critical Jewish Values:
Love of Learning (Limmud)
When we embody these three values working in concert, we are equipped to become socially responsible leaders guided by Jewish values and ethics to pursue wholeness and peace for ourselves and in the world around us.
Love of Learning (Limmud)
We teach to question and think critically in order to make informed choices. Honoring and embracing different modalities of learning both in and out of the classroom, we value seeking wisdom all around us, embrace learning in partnership, and believe that curiosity, wonder, and inquisitiveness are at the root of joy and excitement in learning.
Community is the force that connects us to each other within the school, to Congregation Rodeph Sholom, to the Jewish people, and the world beyond. We create a Kehillah Kedoshah – a community in which we treat one another with respect, uphold the notion that each person is created in the divine image, and fulfill the commandment to act with love toward one another and treat them as they wish to be treated. Furthermore, we teach to live a life of manners and decency and gratitude. We are a community made up of differences, and we see this as one of our greatest blessings. We fully flourish when we understand and feel the value in taking part of something larger than ourselves.
We have a strong sense of responsibility to ourselves and to others. We take personal responsibility by striving to be the best versions of ourselves, have integrity, be self-aware and self-advocates. We teach, model, and expect kindness and accountability as we take responsibility for and to one another in the RSS community. As we engage with the world at large, we fulfill the obligation of pursuing justice and righteousness. We are committed to the giving of Tzedakah (righteousness through giving), actively working toward repairing the world, and not standing idly by. Responsibility (Achrayut) at RSS drives us to create the best version of ourselves, our communities, and the world at large.
