Protect the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

Tell Your Representative and Senators to protect the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in the farm bill.

45.4 million people in America cannot afford the food they need to survive. You can help them. Tell Your Representative and Senators to protect the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in the farm bill.

SNAP, formerly known as food stamps, staves off hunger and food insecurity and lifts 3.5 million families above the poverty line. Almost 70% of SNAP families have at least one child and nearly 33% are families with an elderly or disabled family member.

SNAP is part of the farm bill, which expired on September 30, 2018. The House and the Senate passed two very different versions of a new farm bill in June. The Senate bill reforms SNAP, while enabling those who rely on this program to feed their families to continue to participate in the program. The House bill is draconian; the proposed changes would restrict or eliminate access to SNAP for millions of people. These folks will have to choose between eating and paying their rent, car insurance, electricity bill, and other pressing expenses.

Congress gave a big tax break to corporations and multi-millionaires but is penny-pinching when it comes to struggling families. Click on this link to tell your Representative and Senators to protect SNAP and Americans who need this important anti-poverty program to survive.

Let’s not balance the federal budget by grabbing food off the tables of vulnerable families.

    • Once you’ve entered that, you should be dialed in and able to hear services.
