On Sunday, June 3, both Congregation Rodeph Sholom and Rodeph Sholom School gathered to march with other UWS congregations at the Celebrate Israel Parade. As this year is Israel’s 70th birthday, the parade was extra special, with beach balls, inflatable hammers, and hats and flags given to all. Communities from around the Greater New York City area participated, and the turnout was observed by many to have been its best in years. With the united UWS synagogues marching under a shared banner, Rodeph Sholom families walked the route up Fifth Avenue from 52nd to 74th street, dancing and walking to the Israeli pop music playing from the UJA float in front of us. Rabbi Robert N. Levine and Cantor Rebecca Garfein led the way!
